ABSTRACT AND SPECIFICATIONS
- Title, Name, Year and Program
-
Purpose:
- Golden Circle: WHY, WHAT, HOW
-
What is the purpose of this OP? How does the work that you report in here and the work of constructing the OP meet
a) learning and unlearning goals of your own and
b) the needs of the global eco-social regeneration community.
- Design pathway for the year, including my learning goals and project plans
- a) improves pedagogy and self-discipline in learning
- b) exemplifies ways to create lasting, healthy communities
-
How do you relate this OP to your version of the big picture?
- Without goals, direction, theories, and visions I am useless in the utilitarian sense. I cannot be happy or healthy without a clear pathway to provide guidance and achieve dreams that are global-centric.
-
Goals:
- SMART GOAL: Create a LIPD for my ALC-2 by December 1st, 2015 that includes projects, plans, timelines, un/learning goals, and skillflex development tracking.
-
Methods:
- Use diagrams of Kolb's Action Learning, Dragon Dreaming, 8 Shields, Looby McNamara, Ethan Roland, Eisenhower, Laura Kastele, SMART goals, Competence Ladder, Dunn's learning model, Bloom's learning model, Annette Lamb's 8W's
-
Guidelines for reader
- Navigate this Collection front to back, beginning with this page of Specifications and Abstract (which includes self, peer, and pro reviews in the commentary section at the bottom). The middle section is the Core Report, depicting my Goals, Skills, and Interests; Projects, Timelines and Plans; and finally my OP planning. My Reflections and Commentary are found on one page followed by my Supporting Evidence.
-
Key Un/Learnings
- The completion of my ALC-1 has surfaced many confusions and misunderstandings about how crucial it is to create a strong LIPD. My first one had no timeline for OP Planning, and hardly any plans at all. This became evident halfway through my cycle and that "A-ha!" moment has led me to focus much more energy in the process of planning for this pathway.
-
Feedback from previous OPs
- The feedback I consistently get has to do with the Process Skills area of my portfolios, specifically the "Critical Evaluation Skills and Reference to Good Practices Elsewhere" and "Collaboration, Participation, Use of Peers, Allies, Mentors." I also find myself weak in the Action Learning Skills and plan to dive into this area deeper as I go along in this Cycle. One last area that was completely absent for the first year of my ALC-1 was an Annotated Resource Review which I now understand and will further develop the skill of creating one for each OP.

REFLECTION AND COMMENTARY
-
OP Design Process
- What design method did I choose and why?
-
OP Process Un/Learnings
- What went well?
- What was challenging?
- What would I do differently next time?
-
Managing Time, Managing Promises
-
Tools used?
- Eisenhower Matrix
- Estimating Tools
- Calendar
- Timelines
-
Self-eval of progress:
- Any "life-happens" situations? How were they dealt with?
- Comitments balanced to capacities?
- Due dates missed? Renogotiated?
- Realistic estimates of time?
- Saying yes/no/let me get back to you when necessary? (trusting instinct, acting impulsively...)
-
Interventions, Timing, and Transitions
-
Designed/Improvised interventions
- How was I intervening in the situation?
- When did I intervene and why/what prompted it?
- How was the timing significant?
-
Thinking and Doing
- How did I adapt planned actions to unforeseen outcomes with clear pauses from "doing" in order to evaluate the next steps?
- Did I zoom in and out to vary the view of the action?
- Do I use myth, models, metaphor, research and theory to understand complex situations?
- Do I work logically, systematically and intuitively?
- Was I ever in paralysis by analysis?
-
Reflection and Experimentation
- Do I create time, space, allies necessary for quality reflection?
- Am I keen to search out meaning and take different perspectives?
- Do I run rapid prototypes and early trials to bypass speculative paralysis?
- Did I abandon designs, retune, tweak, reschedule, switch approaches?
- Did I turn constraints into opportunities?
-
Competence and Attention
-
Personal Development
- Self care
- Patrix-busting
- Inter and Intra relationship development
- Non-violent communication
- Health and well-being
- Spiritual Growth
- Un/Learnings
- Noticing emotional patterns
-
Professional Development
- Do I note my own strengths and limitations arising from experiences in workplaces, organizations, and projects?
-
Dissemination Efforts
- Have I made a realistic appraisal of the 'value' of my work in the field of ecosocial design and regeneration?
- Who has been impacted and how?
-
-
Leadership, Facilitation, Mentoring
- How and when was I an active leader, support person, follower, and mentor?
- Did I use processes like the 4 Q's, Think and Listens....
-
Patrix-Busting
- Do I consider the intersections arising from the Patrix in the context of the project and in the meme-plex?
- Have I been able to make a difference to these memes ?
- Poems
-
SUPPORTING EVIDENCE
- Annotated Resource Review
-
Un/Learning Journal Entries
-
Context
- What influenced the context?
- Who else was there?
-
Outcomes and goals
- What were the outcomes I noticed?
- What outcomes did other people notice?
- Which of these outcomes met my goals or the goals of a client?
- Which of these outcomes will contribute to my long term goals or those of a client?
- Where there any challenging and/or surprising outcomes?
- Did or do any of these need remedial action and could they be seen as positive emerging directions?
-
Un/Learnings:
- What will I do differently next time and, if I were mentoring another person to navigate a similar situation, what would my advice be?
- Do I indicate and analyze ways of un/learning in order to create future learning opportunities on a personal, professional and project level?
- Do I provide any examples of un/learning patterns?

DESCRIPTION
- 2 weeks is not much time to accomplish all of this, especially with my jobs, my parents house moving, and being sick--not to mention my recent inability to buckle down.
-
IMPACT
- Will have to move to December 1st, just sets back my pathway
-
SEVERITY
- Not severe, just a bummer
-
PROBABILITY
- Likely
-
LIKELIHOOD OF PRIOR DETECTION
- Will be able to know by next week
-
MITIGATION APPROACH
- E-mail guild buddies, advisor and Jennifer now.
-
PROPOSED SOLUTIONS
- Spend 2-3 hours per day working on my LIPD
-
Ability to synthesize
-
DESCRIPTION
- Lots of information, lost in different diagrams and processes. Want clever way to plan my pathway, but feel like I'm drowning in information. Also can't seem to decide what to focus on for my projects.
-
IMPACT
- May affect time (see above) and will decide this cycle's swing of things.
-
SEVERITY
- Frustrating
-
PROBABILITY
- I think it'll click, I just need to be in the right mindset
-
LIKELIHOOD OF PRIOR DETECTION
- Unsure. Detecting it now I guess.
-
MITIGATION APPROACH
- Guild buddies, Jon, parents advice, dreaming
-
PROPOSED SOLUTIONS
- McHarg's exclusionary method.
