Learning how to learn is life’s most important skill.

Tony Buzan

13th April 2019, the lighthouse of mind mapping harbour faded. Tony Buzan, the promoter of mnemonic systems and mind mapping techniques, closed his eyes but left us with his incredible fortune which he spent his life to popularise and make it well-known…

He is best known for his speed reading and mind mapping techniques. His work on mind mapping has been turned into 100 best-sellers, translated into 150 languages and read by millions of people worldwide.

The mind map will change you life

Said Tony Buzan.

He is best known for his speed reading and mind mapping techniques. His work on mind mapping has been turned into 100 best-sellers, translated into 150 languages and read by millions of people worldwide.

Tony Buzan has been teaching mind mapping skills for quite some time, and he pointed out that mind map emerged from an understanding of the brain as a spatial arrangement of neutrons.

Like many other masters, Tony Buzan encountered a lot of challenges and problems when he started to create mind maps. In his words, they were “monochromatic, monotone and monotonous.” Later, he struggled to answer this question raised by many of his audiences:

Is mind mapping note-taking?

Yes and no, and probably way more than note-taking.

For Buzan, an answer like “revolutionize note-taking” is far from good enough. So he did three things below, to discover what should be the right answer:

  1. Show the technique to others, particularly those who struggled to catch up.
  2. Observe how students use mind maps to improve their lives.
  3. Take observations back to mind mapping.

With many practices and inspiration from nature, he decided Radiant Thinking shall be the answer for all. Exactly, Radiant Thinking! It is about connecting the sudden sparks from the mind, about the unknown. Mind mapping includes note-taking, which is about the known and the current. However, Radiant Thinking is more than that, is about infinity and beyond. Radiant Thinking through mind mapping is:

  • Multi-faceted
  • Colorful
  • Associative
  • Multidimensional
  • Verbal and Pictorial
  • Imaginative and Analytical

It’s incredible that we can think in these ways at once, without multi-tasking. Moreover, our lighthouse, Tony Buzan, had been spending decades on perfecting the skills and teaching more people until his very last day.

I fell in love with mind maps at the very first glance

Said XMind founder Brian Sun.

Like millions of others, Brian was deeply influenced by the learning revolution brought by Tony. He started to use mind maps in his learning since high school, and he never forgets how mind maps have helped him. When Brian graduated from college, he determined to make mind mapping software his lifelong business.

The spirit of better learning and better thinking has encouraged the XMind team to continue to make XMind powerful and yet still free for all the users.

In the days without Tony Buzan, we will still, under your enlightenment, pass on your goal of promoting mind mapping to millions more, to help improve their life. Thank you and may the peace be with you, Tony.
