critical presentation of freely adapted from Buzan's Laws

    1. brain-reflecting structures

one could infer from this presentation (where the wording is generally the original borrowed from the Neuralmatters site) that this particular brain is that of a military or a decision-maker. In reality, the laws-structures in question do not reflect a cognitive model, but a social model, where intellectual activity is not often witnessed.

    2. use throughout your map

consistency is not mentioned, but seems to be a pre-requisite, although the brain does not function along those lines

    3. develop your own colour code

    4. start in the center with a three-color image

    1. select key words

key words should be allowed to shift emphasis from one concept to another

    2. each word/image must be alone and sit on its own line

      hierarchical constraint

    3. lines must be connected/radiating from the center

as witnessed by this map, I don't support this view. Cognitively, the center is a decision, not a state of things or reality.

    4. organic and flowing, thinner as they are farther from the center

obviously an organic metaphor, the flow of blood or a hdrographic network

    5. make the lines as long as the word/image

      relevance questionable

    6. foundation structures

    7. develop personal style

    8. use emphasis and associations in your Map

in contradiction with a hierarchical model

    9. keep Map clear by using

    10. radiant hierarchy

almost an antinomic concept, a hierarchy is top down un point c'est tout; a radiating structure is more egalitarian, but both as far from reflecting the cognitive models

      1. numerical order

a matter of method and not of cognition

        1. outlines to embrace your branches

quoting Wikipedia, an outline is a hierarchical way to display related items of text to graphically depict their relationships. -- (alphanumerically, usually) - a map in a map ? What the French call "un plan". Another contradiction, I'm afraid. Or maybe an indication of what a Mind Map is - a fancy disguise for an outline.

    11. symbols

      1. codes

        use your own color code

        1. dimensions
