Mindmap mit XMind

This is a post from Tim Bormann's blog. Here he tells us why he chooses XMind.

Free Your Mind with XMind -- Dustin Wax

My new favorite mind-mapping tool is XMind, a free, open-source mind-mapping program with a useful (though limited) online component. XMind is incredibly easy to use, allowing you to make and share good-looking mind-maps (and flowcharts, outlines, org charts, and other visual representations of textual data) with a minimum of fuss.

Longtime readers of this site know I have a somewhat conflicted relationship with mind-mapping, but with XMind, I was able to start producing really useful mind-maps in a matter of minutes. I highly recommend you try it out for yourself: XMind.

XMind mind mapping software went open … what’s really behind it?

I was intrigued when XMind announced that they were going to release their software to open source recently. What was up?
Running out of money and looking for a way to keep the product live? Seeing more income from subscriptions rather than selling

XMind Pro? Could this be the start of a trend with other mind mapping software?

All interesting issues for those who like and use mind mapping software, so I contacted them and asked if I could interview

Use Great Structures in XMind!

Great Structures in XMind!(December 12, 2008)

Use Fishbone Diagram with Mind Mapping

Fishbone is a tool to show the causes of a certain event, and considered a tool. It can be used to identify
potential factors causing an overall effect. Fishbone diagram help users visually organize the causal relationships
in complex ideas or events. It also increases awareness of cause and effect, and more simply organize learned
materials or theories.

Author: Luc Raymond Download Map

In XMind, it's easy to use this great tool:

Right-click a topic for the "fish head", and choose 'Structure'->'Fishbone'.

Use "Enter" and "Tab" to create main "bones" and sub "bones".

You can apply any structure to any brunch if necessary.

Fishbone diagram is also useful in project management or activity progress control scenarios, where time sequencing is a concern. A series of activities that impact the project's progress, as well as their time order connections, can be clearly illustrated.

Additionally, every single branch can be detached into detailed recursive activities. As a result, users can quickly understand key activities and time arrangements, and take proper measures to accelerate project completion.

Use Spreadsheet with Mind Mapping

Spreadsheet, a.k.a. 2D-chart, is a breakthrough design for mind mapping/brainstorming software. It is not a calculator. It is a tool to enable successful 'cause and effect' analysis, and provide a systematic approach to drawing meaningful conclusions!

The usage of Spreadsheet is simple:

Right-click a topic for the "title", and choose 'Structure'->'Spreadsheet'.

Press 'Enter' on any row topic or title topic to add a new row.

Click 'Add Column' button on the right of the title to add a new column.

Double-click the column title to edit it.

Double-click the cell to create a new cell topic. 'Enter' works too.

Try drag-and-drop on anything.

A set of complex factors and behaviors that impact final measures are exhibited in perpendicular rows and columns. This enables the in-depth analysis of strengths and weaknesses. It provides a clear, easy-to-interpret view of different lines of thinking.

Embed a 'SWOT' to your mind map today!

Structure Remix

This example shows a mind map with some spreadsheets built-in. More valuable mind maps are sharing at XMind Share

XMind goes open source -- by Brett Terpstra on Nov 15th 2008

XMind -- a powerful, Java-based mind mapping and charting application -- has been open-sourced (it's free!) with version 3.0. While it's not my absolute top pick for mind mapping, it ranks up there. I did have a license for the paid version, and I can tell you that it packs plenty of punch. It has all of the extra features I like: boundaries, relationships, summaries, notes, markers, outline view, floating topics and more, as well as intuitive keyboard navigation for rapid-fire brainstorming.

Review: XMind 2008 Pro -- Mind mapping tool excels in variety and range, by Stuart Gripman, Macworld.com on Nov 14, 2008

Getting thoughts out of your head and into your Mac isn't always easy. All of us have created a new, blank document only to stare at the vast empty space wondering what to do next. Mind mapping aims to prevent those cranial logjams through a process that gets the ideas out quickly, without needless organizational burdens. XMind 2008 Pro (version 2.3) stays true to the mind mapping ideals, though Macintosh standards are the occasional victim.
