With 2016 now gone, have you started planning your 2017? Most people go into the year with little idea of what they want to achieve, scarcely realizing how helpful an annual plan could be. Annual plans help students with a clear overview of their study plans, managers with their business plans, teachers with their lesson plans and all of us with our personal goals. An annual plan brings clarity and proves productivity, thus leading to a successful year.

New Year, New Achievements.

To build an annual plan quickly and effectively, XMind is your best choice. With XMind, you can easily map out a yearly plan which enables you to see the big picture. Here is how XMind helps you build your annual plan like a pro with 5 steps.

Step 1: Set goals

New year, new start. As the marketing manager of a famous restaurant, John needs to create a one-year marketing plan for 2017. Just like every year, John launched his favorite mind mapping software – XMind and opened a blank mind map. XMind offers multiple amazing structures to help business elites improve efficiency. Fishbone Chart can be used to visually organize causal relationships among complex ideas/events. Matrix makes the in-depth comparative analysis for project management possible. Org Chart easily presents an overview of an organization.

This time John chose the Timeline structure, which is the best choice for writing an annual plan. In the central topic, John wrote down his marketing goal: Increase revenue by 20% in 2017. With the Enter key he quickly created a main topic for each quarter (John always divide his annual plan into 4 quarters).

Step 2: Detail specific activities

A mark of a good marketing plan is one that is clear and focused, as well as detailed. With the Tab key John created monthly sub-goals and scheduled all marketing activities for quarter 1.

Quickly, John created a detailed marketing plan for the whole year.

Tip from John: To help decorate the mind maps, XMind offers 109 newly designed clip arts and more than 60,000 icons of various styles. You can drag and drop your desired icons directly to the mind map.

Step3: Set priorities

For any plan, initiative, or strategy to be successful, we must have a set of clear priorities in place to make it happen. After finishing his annual marketing plan, John reviewed the lists again and scheduled in high-priority and urgent activities. In XMind, John easily add a priority marker with the shortcut “Ctrl + 1”.

A few days later, John wanted to check how many high priority activities are there. In XMind, with a single click on the Filter button  in the lower right corner of the workspace, John simply filtered what he wanted.

Step 4: Assign tasks for each activity

It’s time to assign responsibility. Marketing plan will be meaningless when it ends without any action steps. Who exactly is going to carry out the task? With XMind, John can assign tasks simply in the task info view.

Step 5: Add basic info

At the top of John’s annual plan he created a floating central topic to write down the basic information of this plan.

Tip from John: Floating central topic is somewhat the same as the Central Topic. With the floating central topic you can quickly create as many topics as you want and change the map structure easily whenever you want to.

Share the plan

Everything is done and John only need to click the Share button and share his annual plan with his boss. With XMind, communication becomes easy and simple.
